Day Four in Scotland
Well the day that scared me to death was finally here. It was our first day without Rusty or a car. Two things that I know have to get done today...laundry, and we must get out of this hotel! We all slept in late which I hope will help assure that everyone would be rested for the day. We were down to only shorts and short sleeved shirts to wear so finding the laundry room was a must. We went downstairs and looked around until we found it. I think Natalie and Denman thought it was their little treasure hunt. They were running up and down stairs and hiding behind every corner. It was hilarious when one would hide and then scare the one coming around the corner which was usually Denman. He would scream and then start laughing so hard he couldn't take a step. So precious! It was a good thing they enjoyed this trip because the washer and dryer in this joint are not that great. The washer takes about an hour and a half to wash and the dryer takes about two hours if we are lucky to dry. Oh and that is when the one of the two washers aren't full, or the one of the three dryers aren't OUT OF ORDER! It sooo reminds me of the college days and setting your laundry basket in a line and hoping that when you went back you didn't get skipped. However, here it is all free! You don't need a million quarters or washing detergent. They do have that there for you so that is nice. So after THREE eventfilled trips to the laundry room, we now have our clothes on to wash. It says it will take one and a half hours so we are off to see what we can see.
After three trips up and down the SIX flights of stairs to our room, I was a LITTLE upset when we get down to the bottom of the stairs to head on our adventure to hear that Denman forgot his jacket. I honestly have NO idea how he had it on for all of the trips to the laundry room and then even had it on when I turned around to grab the key. Then, we get to the bottom of the stairs and NO JACKET!! Can we say "prayer time". Natalie looks at my face and says, "Don't worry mom, I'll run back up and get it." Now I know we are in a new country, and I know it is a strange hotel, and I know tons of strangers could run up and take this sweet girl at anytime so of course....WE ALL MADE ONE MORE TRIP UP THE STAIRS TO GET DENMAN'S JACKET! As we head up the third flight of stairs, Denman yells "Here it is!!!" It had fallen off as he was running down the stairs trying to beat Natalie. I feel OH SO SORRY for any of the people staying in the rooms below us. Denman has one speed when we get out of the hotel room and that is FAST! So, now we are all ready to go, again!
Now I don't know if I mentioned this or not, but it is also raining non-stop today. We are trying our best to make it from place to place without getting drenched. We began to walk up and down the streets just talking about all the different window decorations and things that we saw along the way. As we were walking, we all soon learned how to walk down the street and keep a good distance from the road, and Denman held my hand the entire time which just made my day. As we kept walking, we found the library, a Music Hall that I thought was a theatre, but it wasn't, and then finally, I see a little piece of heaven...IT'S A MALL. This mall is the same mall that we went to the other day, but I didn't realize we were this close to it. Well, I say close, but it was about ten blocks down in the rain, but we made it! The kids were so excited to see things that were familiar and I was just glad that we found a place inside where we could stay dry and be entertained in some way. The block before the mall we passed a statue that Natalie thought was SO pretty so we had to stop and take a picture. Denman fell as he stepped up on the statue, but got us saying I'm good, I'm good, I can still take the picture. LOL! His sense of humor is keeping my spirits up daily. He is so funny!
I was fighting tears most of this day just because of the frustration of not knowing where to go, what to do, or if I could keep these guys safe if something were to happen. I kept the tears to myself for the most part, but I know by the way Natalie kept helping so much and looking at me that she knew I was just not myself today.
This is a statue of Edward III, I think. I must learn the history behind all of these beautiful things.
They decided NOT to climb up on the statue after Denman fell. :)
So we finally made it into the mall and we were off to figure out what to do now. We found a couple of bookstores that were fun and then a toy store too. As we went up the escalator, we saw a movie theatre... a real one this time. Ice Age 4 was showing and the kids were so excited so we went to see what time it started to see if maybe we could do that today. We walked up, and I couldn't believe it. The next show started at 2:20 and it was 2:10. My heart fell to my feet. I don't think I have ever been so grateful for such a simple blessing. We got in the longest line ever for our tickets and a woman came up to me and said, Did you know they sell tickets at the concession stand too. I'm telling you she was an angel to me! So we went over and got our tickets and candy and then headed to our movie. They have assigned seats here so we found our seats, and then sat down just in time for the lights to go out for the movie. So that is when I just started to cry! I am doing my very best to keep those moments to myself so the kids think that everything is okay. God knew I needed a break and I must say Ice Age 4 will forever be one of the best movies EVER for me! The kids laughed through the entire movie and wanted to see it again as soon as it was over. It was a true blessing for all of us.
After we were done with the movie, I got a text from Rusty. He was going to get off a little early and wanted to know if we wanted to go out for dinner. This was now TWO blessings in a row. It was still pouring outside so walking home was out of the question and we were surrounded by restaurants in the mall so he said he would head our way. He said he could be there in about 20 minutes so we walked around the mall for a few more minutes and then headed to TGIFridays for dinner. Now I can't tell you the last time that Rusty made it home by 5 for dinner, even in Texas. I was SO excited to have him home early today. When he got there we headed to the table and I no longer could fight the tears. What is is about when you get around your husband or your mom the waterworks start? I tried to fight them back because I really don't want him to think that I am a basket case right now but there was no stopping them. It wasn't the ugly cry that makes you not able to talk, it was just tears streaming down my face and I had no control. See, when I get sad you can't be nice to me or show that you care because it just gets worse. So then he writes on the to-go box, I love momma! And that just made them come even faster. He is the most amazing man! He is trying so hard to make this as easy on us as he can, but I think only time can heal us this time.
I had a quote from a friend on facebook over this week that I think fits perfect in here. It is
"The will of God will never take you where the GRACE of God will not protect you."
I completely believe that!
So I had Natalie take a picture of us at TGIFridays to remember this moment, but to also show you all that I am going to be just fine because I did in fact find Coors Light. :) I am 100 percent HUMAN and there are just some things in life that I CANNOT live without, especially after a hard day or in this case a few hard MONTHS! We sat and had a great dinner after my waterworks stopped.
We are eating at TGIFridays to help feel like home.
Denman ended up falling asleep before his dinner even got to the table. I started getting worried about him because he always wakes up when he hears the food hit the table, but this time he didn't. As we were leaving, Rusty picked him up and he definitely had fever. Rusty took him to the car while me and Natalie found a thermometer and medicine to take back to the hotel. We all met up at the car and then headed back to the hotel. When we got to the hotel we gave them both a bath and gave Denman his medicine. I slept with Denman and Rusty slept with Natalie just in case it was a virus, I didn't want them to catch it. So night duty here I come!
This is sweet Denman at the table. My little jokester decided to take a break.
I was so worried about Denman and what he had caught because he is really good at catching the week long viruses and sharing the LOVE. So as I got him settled and asleep I went and grabbed my computer and started typing up a blog. I don't know really why I started it I just knew that I really wanted to document all of my "God Winks" and experiences so I would appreciate the growth every day. So as I finished up our first blog post, crying once again, I realized that the laundry from today was STILL in the washer. Guess I know what we will do first thing in the morning. :) Treasure Hunt here we come!
We thank You, Lord, for blessings
You give us on our way.
May we for these be grateful,
And praise you every day.
