Denman's Birthday!

Denman's Birthday!

I must say that Denman's birthday was a tough day for me.  I am not sure if it was hard because of how little he should still be or because we are in Scotland and our family is in Texas.   We did a ton to celebrate this little man, but a minute didn't go by that I wished we could be surrounded by our friends and family back home as well as our Aberdeen family!

We started his celebration at a place called Cadonas.  It is a HUGE place that reminds me of an incredible pizza with a playground.  We decided to celebrate on the weekend with just us and then have his real party on his actual birthday.

So we spent the day playing games, playing on the playground, picking out prizes, and of course eating pizza for lunch.  It was a fun day for all of us.

This is Denman riding the horse.  He said it felt like he was in Texas because this is the same horse that they have at the Chuck E Cheese in Longview.

He loves trying to get the heads when they pop up.

We found this stagecoach and I made him ride it.

This is what was on the side. :)

Denman played the basket ball game at least ten times.

It was PIZZA time and Denman was so excited!

We still can't believe our baby is FIVE!!!!

Denman loves his sister and kept giving her hugs all day long.  This was the look we got when he kept doing it over and over. :)

We had them sing Happy Birthday to him and bring him a HUGE dessert.  I  think Rusty liked it as much as Denman did.

He liked the ice cream the most.
It was such a fun day.

The next day was his actual birthday.  He wanted me to make him pancakes just like Mrs. Michelle did for Joshua on his birthday last year.  So of course that is what we did.  I searched all week for whipped cream, sprinkles, icing, chocolate syrup, and strawberries.

Natalie was liking our breakfast today.  She did say that Mrs. Michelle's pancakes were still better.

I think  this birthday boy is ready for a great day!

We headed off to school to celebrate his birthday there too.  I made brownies for the class snack so they could celebrate his birthday during snack time.  It was really neat because Nugwis also has his birthday on October 29th so we celebrated double time. :)

Check it out.. before the party they had snack and they got Denman to try cucumbers.

Time to sing Happy Birthday to two sweet little boys Scotland style.

Denman counted the candles while Mrs. Karen  got them going.

He got them all out in one blow.

Now time to pass out the brownies.

Next they all lined up for the birthday parade.  They each get an instrument to play as they go around singing Happy Birthday.  It was precious.  I could tell that was Denman's favorite part because that was the first thing that he told Natalie about his day.

They are lining up to go outside and play and sing.

Denman got embarrassed when I tried to get a good picture so I had to get pictures from a distance.

Sweet Brynn smiled for me though.  She is one of Denman's friends that would come over after school to help us celebrate him.

They went all around the playground.

Denman even had a little skip in his step. :)

I finally got him to look up at me.

After school, I took five little ones home with me for a small birthday party before the big kids got out of school.  Denman always does so much better with smaller crowds and this was a great way for him to get some playtime in with just his friends.

This cake is soooo sad.  Denman decided two nights before his party that he wanted a cookie cake... REALLY???  FYI.. we don't have an American Cookie Place in the UK!!  So I made one out of a cookie receipe that I got from our AWA members.  Thank goodness they had done one before.  It looks pretty sad, but it was all gone by the end of the party so I think it turned out ok.

When we got to the house all the kids went straight into the playroom to play.  It was so fun to watch Denman show every his room his toys, and his cake.

Fransico and Brynn liked the Hex Bugs.

Denman got a new racetrack and loved making the cars go fast.

After some playtime we played a Scottish game called pass the parcel.  You wrap a package six or seven times with a gift inside for every child.  You pass the parcel, aka in the UK package, to music and when the music stops, someone gets to open the next layer of paper.  The kids LOVE it!

Annabel gets to open the first layer.

Fransico had to shake it before he opened his layer.

Brynn was very careful with her layer.

Everyone got to open the package twice and then FINALLY...

Brynn got to see what was on the inside.  It was bubbles for everyone. :)

Then it was back to playing.

Annabel and Denman built a fort.

We all carved a pumpkin and baked the seeds.

And now it was time to decorate cupcakes.  I think they liked this part the best.

Annabel tried out the icing first.

I made sure everyone had plenty goodies to make their cupcakes perfect.

Brynn just wanted the marchmellows.

Fransico loved the chocolate ones best.

Finn liked to take his time making his cupcake.

It was tons of fun!

We are still all smiles on round three of cupcakes.

And now the big party begins.  The big kids were now out of school and ready to party.
Once Natalie got home, we had cake.

We had to sing the American song and the Scottish song.

He is loving two cakes in one day.

Time to open presents. :)  We had a picture of our Texas friends right beside us.  So SEE you guys were there too.

GLOW IN THE DARK HEX BUGS!

Nerf Gun!

Movie gift card and candy.

Denman had to stop and try a piece. :)  I love that Emily knew exactly what kinds he liked best.

Keeley and Kaitlyn always make this little man smile!

And now time to play with all of the new toys!

My house FINALLY sounds like my house did in The Woodlands.  Full of kids, laughter, and toy noise. :)  I LOVED EVERY MINUTE!

This was one happy little boy.  Happy Birthday to our precious Denman!  I can't
believe you are five.  This world is a better place because you are in it!!!  Your love for life keeps a smile on our face and love in our hearts.  I can't wait to see how you keep us on our toes this year!

I think it turned out to be a great birthday!  I went upstairs to put on a movie for Denman to watch before bedtime and this is what I found in my bed.  I love that little dude!
Happy  Birthday Sweet Boy!
