The International School's Open House
Tonight was the open house night for Denman and Natalie's school. Rusty came home so I could go and see what the kids are learning about this year. I was beyond impressed with just about EVERYTHING!
I went into Natalie's Second grade room first. It was so nice to see so many parents there and many moms that I already knew. I love how small Aberdeen seems to be. The moms that I met at the gym are the moms that I met at school, and the moms that are also in the AWA moms group. It is like having our own community.
Mrs. Newbury and Ms. Randall were talking about the year when I walked in and they told us about all the different things around the room that the kids prepared for us over the past two weeks. I was SHOCKED at how much they had done in such a short time.
This is called a Tuxedo. They type in the design that they want and then words that mean the most to them and then it creates a design. I LOVED reading all of Natalie's words.
They also made a ladybug that describes who they are. I had to find Natalie's by using her clues. The dots show what month she was born. The hat shows her favorite color. Then, she gave the clues that she is a girl and is really good at skateboarding. I KNEW that had to be her. :)
She also drew a picture of herself to add to the growing pyramid. Can you tell which one is her? It took me two guesses. :)
She made a Toucan to show that her birthday is in December. Looks like we will be eating lots of cupcakes in December. :)
This is so neat. They had to create a poem that gave interesting facts. I don't know if you can read it. It says.. She never gives up which is sooo true especially in an argument.
She is amazing at skateboarding which she is and is even better than Rusty already.
She is a Texan and you can tell that by her accent.
She is always smiling, and that is true even when she cries..My precious angel!!!
She loves gardening... that must be from NANA because we have NEVER gardened at my house!
She has a brother.. that she is always looking out for.
She is extremely happy... and that is for sure my sweet little girl. She always finds the good in everything!
I am sooo proud of her!!!
This is a picture that they took when they went to a Nursing Home called Fergus House to visit the residents there. Natalie said this one reminded her a lot of Elsie. It touched my heart so much!
When she got dressed on the day they went to Fergus House, she got all dressed up. She grabbed her build a bear and her favorite book that she reads to Denman. She said she wanted to be sure and take something that she could share with all of the residents. So Sweet!
They also wrote a story about their visit to Fergus House. She says that she was very shy at first and can't wait to go back to visit.
This is a picture that they took when they all go together at Fergus House to sing.
This is the classroom that Natalie is in. I LOVED the eight mindset rules.
My favorite one is... GIVE IT A GO!! aka in the UK at least try it!
This was outside the room which allowed all the parents to learn a little bit about each child. Love that she loves gardening again..LOL!
She had to take in her favorite book but couldn't show me which one she took to school so I had to try and figure out which one it was on the wall. I was RIGHT!! She LOVES Green Eggs and Ham... the book that is. :)
After we had tons of fun in Natalie's room, it was time to go to the auditorium to meet the staff. They had students draw a picture of something interesting that the staff did over the summer to introduce each teacher. They then made it into a PowerPoint and it was just hilarious and such a great way to introduce the staff to parents.
I was then able to spend the last hour in Denman's room. Oh how I LOVE preschool teachers. I have NO idea how they do so much with so many little ones. I didn't get a chance to get all of the pictures I wanted of his room, but I will get them as I help in the classroom. I am now the Preschool Room mom or aka in the UK...CEC Classroom Event Coordinator. I was soo excited when they asked me to take that role. I didn't even sign up this time.. :) She said I had it written all over my face.. She told me it was the tennis shoes and energy. I'm super excited about it! It makes me feel like I am right at home.
This was the picture that they had outside so we could get to know all the kiddos. Denman gave the BIGGEST grin when he saw his picture up on the wall the next day.
This is what the kids told the teachers when they asked them about their family. It says. I am four and a half years old. My family is Rusty, Marnie, Natalie and me. I am good at balancing. I love playing in the playroom at my house.
I am sooo amazed at how good his drawings are getting.
He LOVES to find a picture and try to copy it.
This is his self portrait that I just think is the cutest.
They took a class picture one day and as you can see Denman is the one in a Cubbie Vest. He LOVES that vest. Ms. Karen said that he shared that he learns the bible and then he gets a patch added onto the vest. He is so proud of it!
This is where he hangs his rain jacket, backpack and lunch box each day.
He always tells me ... I GOT IT!!! It takes 30 minutes with his broken arm, but I let him do it.
We sent in a picture of our family and then they draw a picture too. The eyes are so cute!
This is a painting that he did. He told me when I got home and showed him the picture that that is a turtle that went outside in the rain. I just said OK..
After spending that night looking at all of the fun things they were up to, I totally wanted to teach again!!! I know that I have WAY too much going on right now to even think about it, but made me miss it so much.
We are so blessed to be a part of such an amazing group of educators. Tears fell down my face on my way home as I began to see a little glimpse of the big picture that God has in store for us. It is soo not about me and the trials that I face each day.... it is ALL about what seeds He is planting in Natalie and Denman that make each day exciting and worth it for me.
